{Bridal News} Wish For It – makes dreams come true

Weddings are lovely and while the bride and groom often don’t expect anything in return –any married couple will agree, ripping open those wedding presents is one way to make the wedding magic continue!

Wedding registries changed the way gifts are given as this was finally a no fuss way for couples to really get what they wanted without having to worry about getting 10 kettles or 5 tea-sets.

But now that most people choose to get married at a later stage in their lives their gift needs have also changed. These days it’s more a question of combining two households into one rather than starting from scratch. But now thanks to the trend of crowd funding becoming popular it’s even easier to get the gifts you really want! SA is fairly new to the idea of crowd funding on such a “professional” scale but a new website called Wish for It (www.wishforit.co.za) is providing an innovative solution for brides, grooms, as well as birthday girls and boys, to get only the gifts they want especially those big ticket items.

The website was inspired by the international success of crowd funding as a means for raising money. This easy to use and secure website – makes it possible for groups of family and friends to contribute financially towards a much-desired gift rather than buying lots of smaller, less useful gifts

Co-founder of Wish for It, Sarah Hoffman explains that when she was getting married last year, she knew she didn’t really need another platter or vase, but didn’t quite know how to say this to her wedding guests. She says, “I thought – wouldn’t it be great if my wedding guests could contribute towards the things my husband and I really needed but which were too expensive to receive from one person,” says Sarah.

“I recognised that people were going to be spending money on wedding gifts regardless. It made so much sense to co-ordinate their giving. With the crowd funding concept gaining popularity overseas and gradually in South Africa, I thought – why not crowd fund for gifts too?”

Sarah and her husband used Wish for It to fund their honeymoon and a new dining room table.

How does it work?

This website is easy to use and all it takes is 3 simple steps.

1. Go the Wish for it website and create an account – then get started on your wish list. Once you’re done, share your wish list link with friends and family either as part of a wedding invitation, via email or through social media.

2. Wedding guests then contribute their chosen amount to the gift/s. After the wedding, Wish for It pays out the funds raised through the site via its secured payment partner, Mygate. Wishers are also sent a breakdown of gifts and personalised messages from their guests.

3. Wishers then get to go out and buy the gifts they really want. Wish for It uses 3D Secure, the most widely used fraud prevention technology in online payments to ensure that all payments processed through the site are totally safe and secure.
