{Flowers} Winter Harvest
Nubian Bride’s esteemed Flower Editor, Otto de Jager, offers some stunning inspiration for winter wedding floral arrangements
The harvest of winter… berries and an old tree trunk. Orange Vanda orchids and gold leaf brown pears are placed in a horizontal line to give a unique, rich sense of winter splendour.
Manolia twigs thrown together and test tubes used to balance throughout the nest of twigs. Lilac tulips create colour to this otherwise sombre winter setting of winter. The twigs and test tubes hang like icicles, as if a severe snow storm is in the process of melting.
A dried aloe trunk is the hero and all else is used in support of this magnificent form, shape and texture. White flowers are used to highlight and to soften the shape’s harshness and austerity, while rose hip berries create an immediate balance.
Easy does it… Oncidinae orchids in orange glass vases. Perfect for those who truly do not have the confidence to push the envelope. This is about proportion and colour; an elementary rule that always works. Ensure that the length of the Oncidians stem is twice the length of the vase.
