{Good Advice} Get the best out of your ring bearer

Having a ring bearer at your wedding isn’t mandatory. It’s just another way of getting young family members involved in the ceremony. However, if you choose to go the route of a page boy, consider these five tips to ensure things go according to plan.

Choose someone close to you
Your ring bearer should be your first cousin or God child. They should be between the ages of four and six. Sit his parents where he can see him, this will make him feel comfortable and will give him the confidence to walk down the aisle. He should also be a kid with personality and should not be shy.

Include him in the rehearsal dinner.
This will give him an idea of what the wedding ceremony will be like. Make sure he knows when it is his time to walk in. Show him how to carry the pillow with the mock rings. If you want him to carry the original rings, then give them to him just before he walks down the aisle.

The dress code
While it is tempting to dress the ring bearer in the same attire as the groom, it’s advisable to dress him in comfortable clothes that he will wear again. Dress him in smart casual attire, such as jeans teamed with a shirt and bow tie; complete the look with a pair of formal shoes.  Clothing shops such as Jacadi, Truworths and Woolworths.

Buy him a token of appreciation
To get the best out of your ring bearer, buy him something that he likes, his favourite video game for example. This way, he will feel as important as the adults in the wedding party, and hopefully be motivated to be on his best behaviour.

Do not take them on a photo shoot
Kids get tired and bored really quickly, especially at formal functions. When this happens they may become irritable and start to misbehave. Therefore it is important to have him photographed as he walks down the aisle. Be sure to remind him to walk slowly, so the photographer may get the best pictures of him. But if you are going to take him to the shoot; remember to bring him books or toys to keep him occupied.
