{Good Advice} Superfoods you should enjoy this festive season

It’s horribly difficult trying to stick to a diet during the festive season as it really does feel like decadent treats beckon from every corner. So in a bid to keep you healthy and hopefully keep the weight off, we’ve got some tasty, easy to follow food advice just for you.

So put down the milk chocolate and reach for these superfoods instead. Lisa Drayer, nutritionist and author of The Beauty Diet, promises that these healthy food choices will not only help you lose weight but also improve your skin, hair, teeth, nails and overall health.

 

 

Spinach: Rich in nutrients and antioxidants, spinach is loaded with lutein, which keeps your eyes healthy and sparkling. It’s also a good source of vitamins B, C, and E, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids.

Kiwis: Loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants, kiwis also help keep your skin firm and help prevent wrinkles. An added bonus is the antioxidants in kiwis also protect you from cancer and heart disease.

 

Wild Salmon: One of the best food sources for omega-3 fatty acids, wild salmon helps keep your skin supple and moisturised.Salmon packs a powerful punch of selenium (a mineral that protects the skin from sun exposure) and vitamin D which keeps your bones and teeth strong and healthy.

Oysters: These are a great source of zinc, which aids in skin cell renewal and repair. Zinc also keeps your nails, hair, and eyes healthy.

Walnuts: They’re a great snack and easy to eat. You’ll enjoy their many benefits: smoother skin, healthy hair, bright eyes and strong bones.

 

Tomatoes: Tomatoes are the best source of the anti-ageing antioxidant lycopene. Blueberries: Highly ranked for their antioxidant qualities, blueberries help protect you from premature ageing, so add half a cup to your yoghurt or smoothie or just snack on them frozen to beat the heat!

 

Dark Chocolate: See, chocolate is good for you – but we’re talking about dark chocolate only! Dark chocolate helps skin stay hydrated and protects skin from sun damage. Reach for brands that have a high flavanol content and contain at least 60 percent cacao.
