{Real Wedding} Jade & George

Jade and George, Cape Town

Where are the two of you originally from?
George: I was born in Zimbabwe and raised in Cape Town. My mother is a strong Zimbabwean woman who fell in love with my quiet South African father who served in the Rhodesian army.

Jade: I am a Capetonian born and bred – my heritage includes Malay, Indian, Dutch and Philippines.

Where and how did the two of you meet?
We met at work.  iiNet an Australian based Internet Company set up a customer service centre in Cape Town. The connection was instant we felt like we knew each other from somewhere, we just gazed at each other across the room as I was being lead around the call centre floor during my induction. George apparently stared at my induction photo and he remembered thinking about how beautiful I was. It wasn’t until four weeks later that either of us had the courage to strike up a conversation.  We bumped into each other in the canteen hallway and both of asked: “don’t I know you from somewhere?”.  We spent about 10minutes suggesting places we might have met with no avail. To this day, it still remains a mystery as to why we felt we knew each other. I like to believe its just destiny.

How did he propose?
Jade: It’s very difficult to surprise me because I am a very curious individual and nothing really goes unnoticed.  I swear I should have been a detective.  He wrote me a note and drew a ring on it and let the note in a place where I could find it.  I found the note and was totally blown away! It was the sweetest thing.

Give us a short description of the wedding day
The wedding was small, intimate and lots of fun. Putting everything together was the most exciting experience.

If you could change one thing about your wedding day, what would it be?
The DJ – our sound person decided to dump our wedding three days before D-day and we scrambled to find someone in time – we ended up hiring equipment and playing the music from a laptop. It’s important to have your music and playlist sorted out before the wedding.
George: I really missed my cigars for that ‘bestmen and groom bar moment’ but there were so many things going on that I  didn’t have time to get them. So I would advise anyone who is planning wedding to make sure that they get the smaller things in the beginning stages of planning.

The most disappointing thing was the no-shows; always have a plan to fill in the seats in case some of your guests don’t make it.

What were some of the highlights of the day for the both of you?
Bride: George blew my mind with the wedding car because he kept it a secret, when my dad arrived to collect me for the ceremony I was just blown away, it was not at all what I was expecting but it was everything I wanted.

George: I think the sushi was absolutely amazing, it was being made fresh and really had a lot of people interested. Jade and I did the twist as our wedding dance
I also really loved the wedding cake, it was beautiful and it even had our best friend, Renji the Chow Chow on it.

What are you honeymoon plans?
We spent a short honeymoon stay at a beautiful Camps Bay Villa at the mouth of the beachfront. We plan on having a late honeymoon in Zimbabwe.
George: I am so excited because I haven’t been to Zimbabwe since I was 5 years old and I am sure Jade will love it.  I want to take Jade on an amazing, romantic safari experience and kiss her at Victoria Falls.
