{Real Wedding} Nirusha and Sajeet
This is Nirusha and Sajeet’s wedding. It took place in Durban over the winter. That’s what so great about Durban, all year wedding season! Enjoy
Short description of the wedding day.
We got married in June in Durban. We had a traditional Gujerati wedding that went on over 4 days. It started with the mendhi on Thursday, engagement and sanji on Friday, peeti on Saturday and wedding on Sunday.
How did Sajeet propose?
He planned a ‘date night’ which we sometimes do . And he proposed on the top of the Hyde Park hotel at sunset. But he didn’t start off very well. He started by saying ‘I haven’t been very honest with you. I’ve lied but I promise I would never lie to you again.’ and since I was expecting the worst, when he got down on one knee I laughed so hard, that I can’t even remember if I said yes. We didn’t share the news with anyone until the next day. It was the best date night we had yet.
What was the highlights for you and Sajeet?
The Sanji. It was amazing. We rehearsed for months for this. And no one knew that we planned a surprise opening dance and we danced down the aisle. Sajeet normally never dances, but there was not a dry eye among our nearest and dearest as he danced and sang to me. He had this HUGE grin on his face that reminded me of our first date. Sajeet has this smile, that big heart warming smile where his eyes are just little slits, it still gives me butterflies and for a minute I forgot that it was my turn to dance, haha. Its was the most romantic moment for me in our 4 years together. The moment of realisation was when I received the design and layout of the wedding card. That’s when the butterflies and excitement kicked in and thought to myself ‘this is it! Finally it seems real, its happening’. When I read it, I couldn’t get the grin off my face for the next two months. Every moment of planning was exciting. We made all decisions jointly so we shared the excitement in planning our big day.
What advice do you have for brides to be planning their wedding?
The best advice is to plan everything in advance, don’t leave even the minute details to the last minute, it allows you to enjoy every moment. And stick to your budget. Its very easy to get carried away.
