Alex & Qhama
Where and how did you meet?
We met at a restaurant in Rosebank. It was my friend’s farewell dinner, and her cousin, who is friends with Alex, invited him to tag along. We spoke briefly at the dinner. The group went for drinks after dinner; that’s when we started chatting and exchanged numbers.
How did he propose?
It was on New Year’s Eve. We’d just had breakfast and were getting ready to go out to buy things for our New Year’s braai. I was still in my pyjamas and in the middle of washing dishes. He was meant to be taking a shower when he suddenly appeared in his boxers. He got on one knee and I laughed; I thought he was joking. Then he took out the ring and asked me to marry him. Some screaming and much laughter later I said “yes”.
Tell us about your wedding day!
At first it was a little chaotic, but once it got going it was such a happy day. My family had so much fun and it was extra special seeing them enjoy the day so much. I was elated.
If you could change one thing about your wedding day, what would it be?
I’d change the hairdresser who made me run late.
What was the highlight of your day?
Definitely being with my husband during the church ceremony. I could hear people around us, but I could see only him.
How did it feel to finally stand next to each other as husband and wife?
It felt like it was something that was always meant to happen… like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Where did you go on honeymoon?
We went to Flamingo Bay in Inhambane, Mozambique.
What advice would you give to a bride-to-be?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s only about you and your husband; everything else is background noise.
