My absolute fav piece of jewellry is a set of mabe pearl earings and ring. As a little girl I apparently asked my gran will is she going to die because I please want this trio… Needless to say on my 21st birthday they were wrapped in an antique silk jewellry bag. I wore them on my wedding and every other day I find the perfect excuse to parade them.

When I was eight my mother was going through a severe depression after my father passed away, and I spent most of my time with my aunt Martha who agreed to take care of me. During that time she gave me a child’s sterling silver ring with emeralds paved into it. I wore it everyday until I grew out of it. But as a teenager, it always reminded me of the strength my aunt Martha had to care for me and my mother in the midst of so much pain. So when I began facing troubles of my own, I strung it on a leather cord and wore it around my neck everyday. I’ve worn it through all the special events in my life when I needed that reminder of stength and courage I had my tiny ring to remind me that I could go on and be strong. Now most of the tiny emeralds have fallen out, but I still wear it as a reminder of the strong women in my life, and all I can overcome.

A beautiful cross necklace made of gemstones my father gave me for my 16th birthday (now 10 years ago). My parents didn’t have much back then, but he sacrificed alot just for that necklace, which makes it much more valuable than the stones it’s made from. And it explains why I only wear it on very special occasions =)

The Christmas after my husband and I got married on 1 Oct 1983.. was the first time I ever received a Christmas gift (for religious reasons).. My husband went out of his way to make it the most special Christmas I’ve ever experience.. On Christmas day we stood on the balcony of our first home.. it was a one bedroom flat.. and he handed me this little box and wished me a merry Christmas.. it was such a touching moment that I will for ever treasure.. My gift was a Gold Cameo ring which I still wear a lot as it goes with everything shabby shic these days…
