{Real Wedding} Tshepo Mamotse

Tshepo-and-Mamotse-Khoza3How did you meet?
I first met Mamotse’ s sister (Rafe) through a cousin and she happened to mention that she had a sister called Mamotse who was studying in China. One lonely night I was in a Facebook chat room and Mamotse’ s name appeared. I thought this name sounded familiar so I started chatting to her.  I asked her if she had a sister called Rafe and when she said yes, I couldn’t believe it.

So we exchanged emails. I then visited China for work and asked her about places to see there. I was studying in Dublin, Ireland at the time. When I went to China for the first time we didn’t meet but we were chatting on email.  After a year of chatting we exchanged numbers and started talking on the phone. We Skyped for hours on end.

I then decided that it would be great to visit her in December in China. She agreed.  We met in China for the first time on Christmas day in 2009. We toured Shanghai, and Hong Kong together. After that we knew this was it, we were in love! I visited her again in China soon afterwards and we confessed our love for each other. When the huge Icelandic volcano wrecked havoc with travellers all over the world I was in China and happy to be stuck there for two more weeks.

How did he propose?
I had a horrible day at work that day. He came to pick me up and said, “Whatever you do, do not open the boot of the car”. I asked why and he told me “Just don’t”. My day was so bad that I just didn’t even question it. When we got home, he told me not to worry about work and everything will be fine. He then told me how much he loved me and how happy I make him. Out of the blue he got on his knees and said, “Will you marry me?”. I could not believe it. He had a diamond ring in his hands. It was one of the happiest moments of my life. I could not stop giggling and saying “Oh my word”.

Short description of the wedding day
Immediately after our engagement we decided that we wanted a garden wedding. The wedding started immediately after everyone had taken their seats . First the groomsmen entered followed by the brides maids and the flower girl. The bride walked down the long corridor in the middle of the garden to the  Etta James’s song At Last. The minister said a few words about what marriage means, but the greatest moment was when we both read our own wedding vows to each other. It was not just words it was us sharing our deepest feelings for each other, it meant more to us that anything at that moment. The promise of a  long life together. It was beautiful.

If you could change one thing about your wedding day, what would it be?
Absolutely nothing. Everything was perfect. If I  had greater powers I would wish that both our grandparents could have been  there to witness it. They were our greatest supporters.

Highlights of the day for both groom and bride
Bride: The highlight of the day happened during the wedding ceremony when we shared our wedding vows, we declared before God, our family and friends  our deepest feelings, our hopes and dreams for our wonderful future ahead and it meant so much to me. It brought our entire love story to a whole new chapter.

Groom: Being on the dance floor, just the two of us. Everyone was watching but I felt like it was just the two of us taking the moment in and declaring our love for each other. It was remarkable.

Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We went to Mauritius the morning after the wedding. We were so tired, having to drive from Haartebees to OR Tambo, after only 3 hours of sleep. Our good friend drove us to the airport. We got to the airport in Mauritius and took a bus ride for another hour to the resort. It was a beautiful resort on the coast. It was well worth it because it had this relaxed nature  feel to it and that’s why we chose it.
