All couples have a vision of how they want their wedding day to look. Employing the services of a wedding planner will bring your vision to life without the fussHere Michelle Krause of Trendy Events has coordinated with photographer Wynand van der Merwe’s and all the suppliers to create a beautifully elegant summer afternoon wedding…

This sumptuous wedding shoot tells the story of a beautifully elegant summer afternoon wedding, replete with gin bar feature and vibrant citrus colour palette. Set against the backdrop of a magnificent Cape Dutch-style homestead with a subtle undertone of farmhouse chic, the whole idea was perfectly interpreted as the ultimate intimate summer wedding for the most discerning of couples. Essentially, this look is a celebration of summer sunshine, bright and beautiful colours and the current fascination we all have with gin!

 Planning and coordination

Leaving your wedding in the hands of the professionals will give it structure and ensure attention to detail is given; it allows you to be as involved as you wish to be, while still having time to carry on with everyday life and spend time with your loved ones. Specialist wedding planner Michelle Krause of Trendy Events says a wedding planner or an on-the-day coordinator should always be part of your wedding budget to ensure that the chosen suppliers fit your wedding styleresulting in the event of your dreams and memories to last a lifetime.

 Venue

The beautiful Cape Dutch-style The Gables boutique venue in the heart of Sandton was the perfect setting for this wedding shoot. The idea was to showcase the rusticity of The Barn at the venue, ideal for a stunning wedding shoot with its cobblestone paving.

Event styling and décor design

Floral elements, a selection of vases and candles, bowls and linen napkins breathed life and energy into the shoot and set the tone and mood. The venue’s beautiful wooden tables served as a natural canvas for the table décor without having to introduce any runners or fabric down the tables’ centres, for a more pared-back and original look. The periwinkle blue linen napkins and navy bud vases complement the wood and the florals perfectly, and add warmth to each place setting. Kate sourced rustic ceramic bowls and yellow tumbler glasses for a fresh take on tableware.

Flowers

Flowers abound, with magnificent floral arrangements on the tables, as well as exquisite bridal bouquets, buttonholes and signature wreaths with mini clementines. The yellow, orange and red poppies stole the show and lifted the whole look of the table with their vibrance and intensity. Adding loads of foraged greenery to the florals made for a softer and slightly more relaxed look, which was perfectly placed in the cobblestone room with its green barn doors.

Photography

Photographer Wynand van der Merwe’s main aim was to create beautiful and elegant photos at this gorgeous venue. Wynand is a creative photographer who loves to craft timeless images that tell powerful stories. He sourced Profoto B1 500 AirTTL lights together with a beauty dish and softbox from Sunshine Co in order to create the perfect lighting.

Stationery

The stationery and signage throughout add a cheerful burst of colour. The design is timeless with a bright palette of clementine and orange. The feel is crisp yet bohemian-rustic.

 Make-u

A spring-inspired look was created with neutral colours as the base with complementary colours to bring out the best features of the brides – soft peaches, subtle pinks and golds. Adding a pop of colour on the lips keeps it youthful and fresh. Airbrush foundation adds to the natural glow as it sits gently on the skin without looking cakey or overdone.

 Wedding dress

Ole is wearing a Pronovias Barcaza gown with short train and button detail down the back that offers a clean,  classic look.

 Groom’s suit

Sello’s white jacket paired with a black bow-tie and orange brooch has a strong yet elegant impact.

Drinks

Frozen alcoholic popsicles, a gin bar and ClemenGold gin are on-trend thirst quenchers that provide a fresh, zesty taste to complement the bright summery setting.
